About the Artist
Henri Gadbois, a native Houstonian, was graduated
from the University of Houston receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master
of Letters degrees. He has been an exhibiting artist since 1947 and has
had exhibitions of his work throughout Texas. His work is in the collections
of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, The Longview Museum, the San Antonio
Fine Arts Association, and many public and private collections.
Although his main interest has been painting the Texas landscape, he is
also interested in primitive rug hooking, quilting and collecting early
English Pink Lustre. A request to create faux oysters
for Yuletide at the Bayou
Bend Collection and Gardens in Houston in 1989 had lead to a business
of creating artificial foods that are chemically safe for museum display.
With his artist wife, Leila McConnell, he spends as much time as possible
at their home in the Texas hill country in Ingram, Texas on the banks
of the Guadalupe River---especially every full moon.
